Essays written on several projects
Nexus
Artist Siba Sahabi and photographer Henri Verhoef initiated in 2020 an interdisciplinary researchproject about loneliness in order to make this feeling accessible. This led to the photo series “Nexus’ and three essays about the subject, written by Karin Wolfs, Daniël Rovers and myself. The project came into being in partnership with the Dutch-Flemish literary magazine ‘the low countries’ and with support of the Dutch Embassy in Brussels. Here you can read my essay.

BETWEEN SCREENS

Olivier van Breugel and Simone Mudde’s Between Screens photo series showcases a phenomenon frequently witnessed in the Rijksmuseum’s Gallery of Honor.
Hordes of people thronging to catch a glimpse of Rembrandt’s renowned Night Watch, but increasingly often looking at it only through the lens of a cell phone, camara or tablet. Van Breugel and Mudde produce arresting close-ups of raised hands clutching pieces of electronic equipment, with the Night Watch on their screens.
Photography project and artist book by Olivier van Breugel and Simone Mudde, made in 2014 for the exhibition ‘On the Move’ in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Van Breugel and Mudde invited me to write a new essay especially for this publication.
